How often are you able to stay true to your word?

I’ve long been a loyal fan of The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Why?
Because it’s so darn simple!

It’s elegant.

But gosh it can be so hard to make those 4 things happen.

And as a reminder, the Agreements are:

  • Be impeccable with your word
  • Don’t take things personally
  • Don’t make assumptions
  • Always do your best

Recently, I’m reminded of the challenges I have with one of the Agreements:
“Be impeccable with your word”
in this case…

If you say you’re gonna do it, then do it!

Where do I find this?
In work, actually.
Over the past couple years, my team has grown.
To raise myself to the level of a team,
I too have grown.

But I’ve not always filled the growth effortlessly.
Sometimes, I’ve said that I’ll get something done.
Or complete something,
Or maybe even start something…
Only to find that I’ve not kept my word to a waiting team member.

Now, I have a lovely, kind and patient team overall.
Nevertheless,
I want to keep my word.
It feels strong, loyal and powerful, caring.

But my easy excuse is “there aren’t enough hours in the day”.
And that is sometimes true…

Because I won’t sacrifice everything else to work,
Just to keep my word…
Judge that one as you may.

Sometimes, I have enough presence to know that
I’m still keeping the Agreements,
Because I’m…
Doing my best.
That’s it! It’s all I can really do,

No matter how high my standards are, or that I want them to be.
And I remind myself of that for my clients and students too.
They’re definitely doing the best they can,
Especially with the resources they have.

In the coming weeks, you’ll find out more about my new
Re-brand that is designed
To help everyone make their “best” even better.

And that’s truly all we can ask for.
That, and forgiveness from those we have not kept our word to,
Despite our best efforts.

Has this ever happened to you?
What are your own personal agreements?
And how do they impact your business success or progress?

Let’s be gentle with ourselves as summer starts to shift into autumn.

50 Weeks Of Giving!

As today is National Book Lovers Day, let’s get behind Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The tireless blond dynamo herself created this foundation
In honor of her own daddy who never learned how to read.
What a glorious and gorgeous tribute.

As a fellow Book Lover, let’s pay that love forward here.
