In these days of rampant social media, the idea of “Self-Promotion” might seem beside the point. However, I see people completely failing to engage at all.

Yet in business, this is akin to throwing in the towel.

There are so many reasons that I hear, about why people don’t self-promote: How they look… Having a bad day/week/month/year… “Nothing new to say”…

And I’m sure all of these are valid in their own way and moment. However, as a business that will thrive, you do yourself the best service by  Shifting the attention off of yourself,

and instead doing one simple, consistent action:

Share what you have to offer, So you can help and transform the lives of those you serve.

You may find it useful to employ the acting technique that applies here:

Back when I was an actor, and especially at the beginning,
We learned in Acting 101 a little game called “Repetition”.

In Repetition, you are repeating what the person before has said, and you only change the repetition when that person makes you feel something new, that you simply have to share.

Of course, the entire exercise has only one purpose:
The get your attention completely off of yourself, And onto the other person…

You know exactly how truly great businesses operate.
Great businesses are obsessed with their audience’s interests.
They find out everything there is to know about them, they meet them right where they are.

None of this it so say that they have forgotten about their own services and offers. On the contrary, instead they just trust that those offers are now meeting the audience exactly where they are.

As any great actress, like Meryl Streep for example, would say:
 Prepare, prepare, prepare…

Then forget about it, trust it, and be completely in the moment.

That is self-promotion: Trusting your offer so much,

That you have no choice but to share it widely, constantly and without any hesitation, because you know exactly how to serve your perfect audience.

If you’ve done the work, then you can use new and better tools like Facebook, to reach more of the best people, keep growing your list, and qualify and eliminate all but the best potential buyers.

So if you find that you are not self-promoting,

Ask yourself:

What am I not clear enough about?

What am I hesitating to share here?

What do I now know enough about to boldly put my offer out there?
