Advertising is Vulnerable

Advertising is Vulnerable

Advertising is one of the most vulnerable actions you’ll ever take.

Most people have lots of reservations about: Putting yourself out there… Worrying about what others will think… Making yourself open to criticism… Having to prove something.

All this is not to mention the specific insecurities that most of us have like:

Do I look good enough?
Do I have something important enough to say?
Will they like me?
It reminds me of old clips of Sally Field winning the Oscar, so vulnerably saying:

“You like me! Right now. You like me!”

As if she just couldn’t believe it, until she had the biggest award there is in her own industry. That’s a lot to process. And it’s a lot to have to deal with and manage. In fact, just before those words, she said:

“I’ve wanted more than anything to have your respect.”

And that ends up being what most of us want. Sure, we want to be liked, but most of all we want to feel that we’re respected and appreciated. And that’s when and why advertising is scary, feeling just so vulnerable.

Will we be wanted?
Will we be appreciated?
Will we get any respect?
Will we get it right?

All of this ultimately boiling down to: Am I Enough?!

And I want to tell you that you are enough.

If you care enough to serve your audience… That alone will often be what pulls you through to the other side. Helping and serving your people will give you the strength, Power, Confidence, Courage, even you can’t imagine how sad it makes me when I see Marketers say things like “don’t be lazy.”nUgh, as if it isn’t complicated enough!nNow, to be called lazy!

Talk about not getting respect.Just start putting yourself out there, one video at a time, one ad at a time, to one group of your audience at a time.

Start with retargeting, with anyone who might know you. Grab your clarity of purpose and let it give you confidence! You don’t need to fake it, you just need to connect to why it matters, and who you get to serve.

So don’t be hard on yourself!

Don’t wish you weren’t so lazy, or that you could stop procrastinating. Instead, fill in the gaps, Get more support,

And just do it! One small step at a time. You don’t have to work around advertising, but find the magic that comes from fully working with it. You got this!

Become the true Force for Good you were meant to be!
